Preferences and Perspective - The Romantic Era

Preferences and Perspective - The Romantic Era The two styles I chose for this assignment and the Romantic Style and the Realist Style. The Romantic movement gave way to Realism. Romantic style art focuses on the spiritual side of a theme. This style is very imaginative and has a lot of fantasy aspects to it. Realist style does not focus on exaggerated emotions and the dark drama of the romantic movement. This art style shows real life people such as laborers and regular people doing work or other activities.  Romantic Style -   Caspar David Friedrich Caspar David Friedrich is known for his allegorical landscapes paintings. He was a part of the Germanic Romantic movement. When he painted, he wanted the contemplation of nature and he wanted his work to convey the spiritual experiences of life. His artwork has a sublime feeling to them. This painting is called Moonrise over the Sea and it was created in 1822. The beautiful colors chosen for this piece shows the contrast of the light and

Jean-Antoine Watteau Watteau was a French rococo artist that created many beautiful pieces of artwork. He is best known for his fetes galantes (romantic scenes). The artwork that I chose from his collection is called the Gersaint’s Shop Sign created in the 1720.  This oil painting was to be his final piece. This painting captures a lot of emotions such as joy and celebration. The people in the painting had discovered some kind of treasure to bring back to their home. More information about this painting in the link below. https://www.aaronartprints.org/watteau-gersaintsshopsign.php I chose this painting by Watteau because of the different things going on in the painting. In one spot there are people looking at a mirror, there is a man poling down a painting of King Louis XIV and a lady speaking to it seems to be a salesman. I like how this moment is captured. It is like you can walk into that scene without skipping a beat. I probably would not own this painting but that does not tak

This is the first time I have seen this piece of art work before. I was first drawn to it because of the hippopotamus and the crocodile in the middle of it. I was quite confused at first because of this till I started doing some research on this piece. This piece of art is called The Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt created by Peter Pual Rubens. This scene takes place on the Nile River. The two animals were considered a problem back in this time period, so they were hunted down by noblemen. Both men and hounds would take part in taking down these beasts.  I do not think I would own a copy of this artwork but it is very fascinating to look at. I think many cultures could relate with this painting. Many groups of people have a hard time with beavers so they go out hunting for th
